What happens when everyone leaves in April?
Late March and April are the hardest weeks of the whole season to arrange anything at short notice, because seasonal departures overlap with spring break. Hundreds of thousands of people leave over a few weeks while the same airport handles a school-holiday peak, and everything from flights to airport transfers tightens at once.
Book the departure transfer when you book the flight home, not in the week before. It costs nothing to reserve early and it is the single most avoidable difficulty in a snowbird winter.

What does a first winter actually look like?

By February they had driven it eleven times. The car had cost them a season of rental, insurance and a toll account, and had spent most of the winter on the driveway getting hot. What they had actually needed was the airport arrival with the luggage, a standing Wednesday afternoon for appointments, two airport runs when their daughter visited, and a departure in April.
