Transportation to Disney's Blizzard Beach
Disney runs two water parks and has often kept only one open at a time. Check which before you plan the day, then let somebody else drive the wet towels home.
Before anything else: check which Disney water park is open on your dates. Disney runs two, Disney's Blizzard Beach and Disney's Typhoon Lagoon, and has historically alternated their seasonal refurbishment so that one is closed while the other operates. Which one that is changes, so we will not tell you here and neither should anybody else without checking on the day you ask. Confirm it on Disney's own calendar for your dates, or tell us your dates and we will check with you. Once that is settled, a water park day is one of the easier ones to book a car for, mostly because of what you are carrying: towels, bags, changes of clothes and a group who will all be damp on the way back. How much is a car to Blizzard Beach?
Flat rates per vehicle rather than per person. Here is a common water park run for families staying in the vacation-home communities.
Insider note
Book a slightly later return than you think you need, and expect to use it. Water parks are the one Disney day that ends early rather than late, because children hit a wall in a way they do not at the dry parks. Having a return you can bring forward is easier than having one you have to push back.
Why book a car for a water park?
Almost entirely because of what you are carrying, and the state everybody is in on the way home.
Everything comes with you
Towels, changes of clothes, sun cream, water shoes and a bag per person. A water day carries more than a dry park day does.
Everybody is damp going home
Even after the changing rooms. A vehicle you have booked is a much better place for that than a shuttle queue.
The day ends when it ends
Water parks finish early and unpredictably. A booked return you can move beats standing around deciding how to get back.
Tired children, short trip
Water tires children out faster than walking does. The journey home is the part you want to be short and simple.
Vacation homes are awkward otherwise
The ChampionsGate, Reunion and Kissimmee communities are not well served by park transport. This is where a car earns its place.
We will check the park is open
Tell us your dates and we will confirm which water park is running before you commit to a plan around it.
Is Blizzard Beach open, or is it Typhoon Lagoon?
This is the question to settle first, and we deliberately will not answer it in fixed text on a web page, because the answer changes and a wrong one costs you a day.
The pattern
Walt Disney World operates two water parks, Disney's Blizzard Beach and Disney's Typhoon Lagoon. Historically they have taken it in turns to close for seasonal refurbishment, so that one runs while the other is shut. Which one is open therefore depends entirely on when you are visiting.
Why we will not print the answer
Because whatever we wrote would eventually be wrong, and a page confidently telling you a park is open when it is closed is worse than a page that tells you to check. Refurbishment schedules move, and they are not always announced far ahead.
How to check properly
- Look at Disney's own park calendar for your specific dates. It is the only authoritative source and it is the one that gets updated
- Check close to the trip as well as when you book. Schedules occasionally shift
- Or simply send us your dates. We will check with you before you build a day around it
If the one you wanted is closed
The other is usually open and both are good, though they are quite different in character. Blizzard Beach is the ski-resort-themed one with Summit Plummet and a strong set of slides. Typhoon Lagoon is the shipwreck-themed one built around a large wave pool. Families with younger children often prefer the wave pool; older children and teenagers usually want the slides.
Not the same as Aquatica
Aquatica is SeaWorld's water park, run by a different company on a different site with its own calendar. If that is the one you meant, it has its own page.
What do Orlux riders say on Google?
Orlux Rides has consistently maintained a shining 5-star rating on Google. Here is what riders say, pulled in live from our verified Google Business Profile.
What is Blizzard Beach like?
A ski resort that has melted, which is a stranger idea than it sounds and works better than it should.
- Summit Plummet - The headline slide and one of the steeper drops of its kind. It sets the tone for the park, and it is the reason older children want to come here rather than to the wave pool.
- Teamboat Springs - A long family raft ride that takes a whole group at once, which makes it the one attraction everybody can do together regardless of age.
- Cross Country Creek and Melt-Away Bay - The lazy river and the main pool. This is where most of the actual day gets spent once the initial enthusiasm for slides has worn off.
- Tike's Peak - The area for younger children, separate from the main slides, which matters if your group spans a wide age range.
- How long to allow - Water parks are usually a half to three-quarter day rather than a full one. Plan the return accordingly rather than assuming a park-closing finish.
A private car to the water parks is best for:
- Loaded-up families - carrying towels, bags and changes of clothes for everybody
- Vacation-home groups - staying in ChampionsGate, Reunion or the Kissimmee corridors
- Early finishes - days that end unpredictably, when the children have had enough
- Mixed-age groups - splitting between the big slides and the shallow end
- Split days - pairing a water park morning with something else in the afternoon
- Weather watchers - confirming the park is open before building the day around it
What should you know before a water park day?
Central Florida specifics that catch out visitors planning from home.
Afternoon storms are routine
Summer thunderstorms close slides temporarily, often in the afternoon. A morning start gets more of the day in before that becomes a factor.
Confirm the park before the plan
The one you have in mind may be in refurbishment. Check Disney's calendar for your dates, or send them to us and we will check.
It is a half day, usually
Water parks finish earlier than dry parks. Booking a full-day plan around one often means a lot of waiting at the end.
Size up for the kit
Towels and bags take more room than people expect. If you are between an SUV and a van for a water day, take the van.
Cooler months can be cold
Florida winters are mild but water parks are outdoors and unheated in parts. A January water day is not the same proposition as a July one.
Animal Kingdom is the nearest dry park
Useful if you are pairing a water morning with something else, or if the weather turns and you want a plan B.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Blizzard Beach open right now?
We deliberately do not answer that in fixed text, because the answer changes and a page that gets it wrong sends you to a closed park. Disney operates two water parks, Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon, and has historically alternated their seasonal refurbishment so one runs while the other is shut. Check Disney’s own park calendar for your specific dates, which is the only source that stays current, or send us your dates and we will check with you before you plan around it.
What is the difference between Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon?
Mostly character and what they are built around. Blizzard Beach is themed as a melting ski resort and leans toward slides, including Summit Plummet and the family raft ride Teamboat Springs. Typhoon Lagoon is themed as a shipwrecked resort and is built around a large wave pool. Families with younger children often prefer Typhoon Lagoon’s wave pool, while older children and teenagers usually want Blizzard Beach’s slides. If the one you wanted is closed, the other is a genuinely good day rather than a consolation.
How long should we allow for a water park?
Usually half a day to three quarters of one rather than a full day. Water tires children out considerably faster than walking around a dry park does, and most families find the enthusiasm runs out sooner than they expected. Plan the return accordingly rather than assuming you will stay until closing, and book a pickup you can bring forward rather than one you will need to push back.
Is Aquatica the same thing?
No. Aquatica is SeaWorld’s water park, operated by a different company on a different site with its own opening calendar, so nothing about Disney’s refurbishment pattern applies to it. If Aquatica is the park you meant, it has its own page on this site. It is a common mix-up because all three sit within a short drive of each other in the same part of Orlando.
What vehicle do we need for a water park day?
Usually one size larger than the passenger count suggests, because of the kit. Towels, changes of clothes, sun cream and a bag each take up real room, and everybody is damp on the way back. A Van for up to 10 is the common choice for a family group; smaller parties take a Luxury SUV for up to 6, larger ones an Executive Mercedes-Benz Sprinter for up to 14.
How much is a car to the water parks?
Rates are flat and quoted per vehicle rather than per person. A Van for up to 10 from the ChampionsGate and Reunion area starts around $110 one way, or around $210 booked there and back. Other origins are quoted individually and confirmed before you book. Text 689-407-2496 with your dates and pickup address and we will send an exact figure, and check the park calendar while we are at it.
