No monorail, boat or Skyliner serves Disney’s Animal Kingdom. And if you drive to Magic Kingdom, Disney’s tram takes you to the Ticket and Transportation Center, not the park gate. Getting between these two parks means solving both ends of that problem.
So how to get from Animal Kingdom to Magic Kingdom comes down to four real options, each with a different drop-off point. I’ll compare them honestly, including the cases where I’d tell you to skip our car and take Disney’s free transportation.
What is the best way to get from Animal Kingdom to Magic Kingdom?
The best way to get from Animal Kingdom to Magic Kingdom for most park hoppers is Disney’s free transportation, and a private car is better for groups, grandparents and evening plans at a resort. Both beat a rideshare that drops you at the TTC with a ferry still to catch.
Here’s how your four options compare on the thing that matters most: where you actually get out.
| Option | Where it leaves you | What you pay | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rideshare | TTC, then ferry or monorail | App fare | One or two people |
| Minnie Van | Near the park, per TouringPlans | Paid, via Lyft | Small families |
| Private car | TTC, or your resort booking | Flat quote | Groups, grandparents |
| Disney transportation | Route set by the app | Free | Most park hoppers |
Can you take a bus from Animal Kingdom to Magic Kingdom?
You can usually get from Animal Kingdom to Magic Kingdom on Disney transportation, but Disney doesn’t promise one direct bus for every park-to-park trip. Disney’s bus page tells you to tap Get Directions in the My Disney Experience app or ask a Cast Member, because the most direct route may combine bus, monorail, boat or walking.
Disney also says some routes require you to transfer buses. That’s why, whenever someone asks me how to get from Animal Kingdom to Magic Kingdom, I check the app on the day, at the bus stop, instead of trusting a route someone used last year. If your route includes a change, ask the Cast Member at the Animal Kingdom bus stop to confirm it before you board; it’s quicker than finding out at the second stop.
Your timing matters too. Disney’s buses between its resort hotels and the theme parks start 45 minutes before opening and end one hour after closing. Disney doesn’t publish separate hours for park-to-park routes, so check your app if you’re hopping late.
Why does a car stop at the Ticket and Transportation Center?
Your car stops at the Ticket and Transportation Center because that’s where Magic Kingdom’s road arrivals are routed. Disney’s own parking page says the courtesy tram takes Magic Kingdom drivers to the Ticket and Transportation Center, not the park entrance.

Rideshare works the same way. TouringPlans reports that Uber and Lyft trips for Magic Kingdom use the TTC, and that Minnie Vans get access directly at the park. From the TTC, Disney’s ferryboats and the Express monorail carry you across to the gate.
There’s one honest exception for you. If you have a dining reservation at a Magic Kingdom resort, such as the Contemporary, a drop there puts you close to the park. Resort hotels are for their guests, so I’d only plan that drop-off when you genuinely have a reason to be at the resort.
How far is Animal Kingdom from Magic Kingdom?
Animal Kingdom is 6.6 miles by road from Magic Kingdom’s Ticket and Transportation Center, and 7.4 miles from Disney’s Contemporary Resort. When I checked Google Maps on a Thursday morning in October 2026, the drive to the TTC showed 10 minutes and the drive to the Contemporary 16, before the parks opened.

Those minutes are the easy part of how to get from Animal Kingdom to Magic Kingdom. Your ferry or monorail from the TTC, or your walk from a resort, comes on top, and park-day traffic on World Drive moves more slowly than an early-morning road.
On foot, Google Maps puts the Contemporary 0.6 miles from Magic Kingdom, about 12 minutes. If you’re doing the reverse trip later in the week, our guide to getting from Magic Kingdom to Animal Kingdom covers it.
Is the Minnie Van worth it from Animal Kingdom?
The Minnie Van is worth it if you’re a small family who wants a ride close to the park and you’re happy to pay for it. Disney runs Minnie Vans through the Lyft app to select locations within Walt Disney World Resort, and prices vary with distance.
Disney lists its Minnie Van pickup points as resort hotels, so check the Lyft app at Animal Kingdom before you count on one there. Lyft gives you a fare estimate once you enter your destination, which lets you compare it with the free route in your app. If the Lyft app shows no Minnie Van nearby, you’ve lost nothing: the free route is still there.
For a group bigger than a Minnie Van holds, or one that needs several car seats, you’re usually better off with one booked vehicle. Our guide to Animal Kingdom to EPCOT runs the same comparison for that hop.
When does a private car beat Disney transportation?
A private car beats Disney transportation when you’re moving a group, traveling with grandparents or small children, or heading to a resort dinner before the fireworks. You leave Animal Kingdom from the curb in one vehicle, with car seats already fitted.
Your car still finishes at the TTC for the park itself, so the saving is in the waiting and the transfers, not in skipping the last leg. For a family of eight who’d otherwise split across two app cars, that’s a real difference.
If your group includes grandparents, the difference shows up in standing time. A car means one short walk to the curb at Animal Kingdom and one seated ride, and you choose when to leave instead of joining the queue when a bus pulls in. That’s often the deciding factor in how to get from Animal Kingdom to Magic Kingdom for a three-generation family.
Our Magic Kingdom car service quotes park-to-park rides inside Walt Disney World per trip, and every quote includes tolls, car seats and boosters, bottled water and curbside meet-and-greet. Gratuity is the only extra. You can also book us from your hotel to Animal Kingdom in the morning and plan the hop in the same booking.
How did one couple turn the hop into an anniversary dinner?
They booked our car for one reason: a 6:30 p.m. table at the California Grill. Marisol and Tomás Delgado spent their 25th anniversary morning at Animal Kingdom and wanted to end the day at Magic Kingdom without a sweaty transfer in their dinner clothes.
Their first plan was the bus, then a change at the park. Marisol asked us instead for a Luxury Sedan from Animal Kingdom to the Contemporary, where the California Grill sits, timed for an unhurried arrival.
Their driver met them at the Animal Kingdom curb at 5:45. After dinner they walked to Magic Kingdom for the fireworks, about 12 minutes on foot. Tomás’s verdict: “We spent the hop in a quiet car instead of a queue, and the walk was the best part.”
